World champion slackliner Jaan Roose makes history as the first person to walk a record-breaking 3.6km slackline across the Strait of Messina, from mainland Italy to Sicily
Since ancient times, humans have explored ways to link Sicily to the mainland, and now the world’s largest suspension bridge is being planned. But Jaan Roose made it his mission to be the first person to cross the Strait of Messina on a slackline. In the summer of 2024, the Estonian slackline athlete undertook an audacious, record-breaking challenge, walking over 3 kilometers on a specially installed slackline. What could go wrong?
