NEPO BABIES, the famous sons and daughters of famous mums and dads …think Brooklyn Beckham, Kim Kardashian, Jayden Smith and Lily-Rose Depp. In recent years the press and public have become obsessed with nepo babies, and the term has gone viral on social media
Phoenix Brown is the daughter of Spice Girl Mel B and she readily admits having a famous parent has helped her career as a DJ, but the public don’t like nepo babies so it’s a privilege which comes with a lot of scrutiny.
To find out whether the nepo tag really does open doors, Phoenix is setting up an experiment. Despite having zero skill in painting she is launching herself as ‘a serious artist’, creating a collection and inviting the press, celebs, art experts and critics to her opening night, to see just how far her name and her mum’s connections can take her.
Along the way Phoenix talks to her mum about what is like to grow up with the nepo baby ‘curse’ and meets other well-known nepo babies, asking how they feel about their position and what it is about nepo babies that the press and public love to hate. And she explores aristo babies, asking why old money nepotism is somehow more acceptable than new money celeb-based nepotism
